The Miyajima Ropeway offers a spectacular journey to the summit area of Mount Misen, the highest peak on Miyajima Island. This scenic cable car ride provides unparalleled panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea, the surrounding islands, and the iconic floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. It's a must-do experience for anyone visiting Miyajima, offering a unique perspective on the island's natural beauty and spiritual significance. The ropeway consists of two separate lines. The first, a gondola-style lift, takes you from the base station (Momijidani Station) to Kayatani Station. From there, you transfer to a larger, more traditional ropeway car that ascends to Shishiiwa Station, near the summit area. The entire journey takes about 20 minutes, and the views become increasingly breathtaking as you climb higher. Once you reach Shishiiwa Station, a short walk will lead you to the Shishiiwa Observatory. From here, you can enjoy stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. You can also explore other attractions on Mount Misen, such as the Misen Hondo Temple, the Reikado Hall (Hall of the Spiritual Flame), and the numerous hiking trails that crisscross the mountain. While Miyajima is famous for its *momiji manju* (maple leaf-shaped cakes), you can find some light snacks and drinks at the ropeway stations. However, for a full meal, it's best to head back down to the main town area of Miyajima.
Transportation
From Miyajima Pier, take a short walk through Momijidani Park to reach the Momijidani Ropeway Station (base station). The ferry to Miyajima departs from Miyajimaguchi Pier, which is accessible by train from Hiroshima Station (JR Sanyo Line).
